Summer Summary

Or "How To Be A Lazy Blogger".

So, I have been doing a few things over the last several months. But it's been a mixed bag of projects in different areas of interest.  So, because I haven't blogged about each odd craft thing I've been doing lately I decided to just post snapshots, maybe with a word or two, about each thing I worked on. 

Large Pojagi Cloth Panels.This large window gets direct sunlight several hours in the afternoon until sundown. Even with curtains behind the the pojagi panels there is still plenty of light coming through to play off the colors of the fabrics.

Small Pojagi panel. These were white on white fabrics stained with a diluted wash of acrylic ink which is permanent, still flexible and washable.

 

Mini Cloth Cover notebooks.

Mini (3 1/2" x 5 1/2") travelers style leather cover for Mini Notebooks.

A giant painting that I have been working on for a year and is not done yet! At least giant for me. It's actually only about 3' x 4' and the "canvas" is actually and old plywood crate lid. It's just one big experimental mess of color and texture. Fun.

 A couple little crochet bags from scraps of wool yarn.

 

A zipper pouch for pens and notebooks.

Some small artwork. A butterfly for an ArtSnacks Liquitex Cadmium Free art challenge.

Another butterfly for an ArtSnacks monthly challenge.

Some small painted canvas scraps to use as mini notebook covers.

One of the mini notebooks completed. The other two are ready for pages.

A big messy randomly painted cloth to cut up and use for more notebook covers.

 Still working on these.

And several watercolor "doodles" along the way.

Sewing and Doodling

When I'm not very focused on any specific project I resort to finishing up something from my collection of already sewn quilt blocks. Two benefits to this, I get to check something off my list of things to do as completed and I don't have to think too hard. I just sew.

Small and mini quilts I finished in May:

When I'm not sewing I'm just doodling or painting something abstract. I think the doodling and abstractedness is all a reflection of my unfocus. 

Well, this turned out strange, a collage of nothing and everything. This collage never looked finished to me and I didn't have a clear direction I was going with so I just kept writing various symbolic information on it until I got tired of doing that.

Christmas Art

For the last couple years I have been trying to do some kind of artwork with a Christmas theme to use on the yearly Christmas card.  The artwork is also usually a reflection of the type of art I have been doing that year. It could be paper collage, fabric collage, digital art or something else.  This year I have been doing or doodling with watercolor and topographic lines or drawn patterns so I started to try to create something along those lines with a Christmas theme.

These are some of the practice pieces I have been working on:

They were not coming out the way I imagined but they are interesting and I still have a couple more to work on just for the fun of it.

I also though about a doing a tribal design for the tree drawing:

I also think this design could be used to create an interesting Christmas quilt.

But in the end I decided to go with a simple splattered watercolor Christmas tree 

and I digitally enhanced it some in PSE13 after scanning it.  

I even found a cool paint splatter font to use for the text.

Lines, lines and more lines

I'm still exploring imaginary topography. 

And now there is color in the imaginary world. 

These random watercolor pieces make a good jumping off point for starting the lines. 

This is before and after adding lines. 

I think I'll do a few more like this. 

These are the next set of papers I plan to topograph.

Imaginary Topography

I've been sketching some imaginary topographies. These aren't very big and they don't take very long. If I sit and doodle for a couple minutes this is what I get:

Some inspired by real topography, some not so much.

Just playing with shape and density. 

And different pens and smoothness of line. 

And direction, size, shape and spacing. 

I think I'll do some more of these. Maybe add some color and other stuff. Maybe not.

I'd like to end up with a design for fabric but I'm not there yet.
